"QUANTUM SHOT" #850 Link - article by Avi Abrams There is still a place for a Jules Verne-styled eccentric scientist in this world, after all! Today we have a special treat for you: not your usual, run-of-the-mill steampunk devices (although we love them by themselves, see our Steampunk Series for proof) - but fully realized mobile orchestra music machines, some capable of playing by themselves, some aiding the one-man-band musician lucky enough to operate one. These machines are the outrageous creations by Arthur van Poppel from Tilburg, The Netherlands, who builds them in his own studio and them takes them for performances all across Europe. (all images credit: Arthur van Poppel, with exclusive permission) Arthur van Poppel's Steampunk Scooter is the Ultimate Music High This shapely, curvaceous scooter comes equipped with a guitar, an amp and a horn section, and is capable of surrounding the owner with good sounds - either of his choosing, or of his own making. We simply love the golden glimmer that this steampunk beauty casts around itself: What a marvelous attention to detail! Some of these levers and buttons are for decoration only, but some are fully legit: And he indeed can make music on it! - Check out a couple of videos of this thing in action. Taking Jules Verne's Style One Step Further: The Golden "Nautilus" Music Submarine! Looking like something out of "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium", and owing perhaps more than a little to the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine", this steampunk-styled One-Man-Band Vehicle also doubles as a submarine: This five meter long glimmering vehicle features more brass and knobs than any other steampunk-themed device we laid our eyes on. It's even got ponderous, heavy rotating drums, and some sort of mysterious lights appearing inside "portholes": The performance is punctuated with the "Nautilus" breathing fire - check out this video: The musical instruments are lovely to behold and a delight to play: The costume and the hat fits the performance: Marvelous Music Machines: Perfect for London! ...and by "London" we mean the magical London of Harry Potter's Universe: this whimsical creation by Arthur van Poppel would fit perfectly parked near the "Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes" store (also known as "Weasley & Weasley"). By the way, you can explore this store, and other magical shops along the Diagon Alley using Google Maps!: (image credit: Google Maps) Note the disembodied moving hand that, in its own creepy way, contributes to the band: One Man Band, redefined: My Other Car is a Jet Arthur van Poppel has also built a jet that's so small that you can drive it around your mall parking lot. It's a copy of the F-35 from the Joint Strike Fighter Program and it can deploy smoke, water and the confetti effects (short of actual flying): Article by Avi Abrams, Dark Roasted Blend.
