Pic-of-the-Day Link Damsels in serious distress, all over the far reaches of time and space Norman Saunders (1907-1989) was one of these old school pulp art masters of the 1930s-1950s who could paint realistic and fantastic scenes with equal enthusiasm and unfailing professionalism. The scarcely-clad ladies on his pulp covers were invariably beguiling, fetching, and beautiful - but seemed to be stuck in a pretty standard state of distress that no hero could reliably rectify from one pulp issue to another. (image credit: Norman Saunders) This is one seriously intense artwork, combining space adventure and zombie-like horror in one delicious frame. I don't think that it appeared on DRB so far in any of our space and pulp art compilations. Here are a few other interesting scenes, some are way back from 1939: (bottom image: "Marvel Stories", 1939, via) You can see many other examples of Norman Saunders work at this extensive gallery.
